Message from the Alumni Director
alumniCard_imgBuilding.jpg

May is a time of growth and rejuvenation, and also a time for hellos and goodbyes.  While we welcome our 3,000 newest alumni who crossed the stage to receive their Kean diploma, our graduates are also bidding farewell to their time at Kean as they look forward to the next step of their journey.  We welcomed back to campus alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago, while we also mourned the passing of Kean’s first alumni director and recent Distinguished Alumni inductee, Caroline Jolly ’70 ’93 MPA. Many of the annual programs that we might take for granted these days were created under her tenure as she cultivated the early seeds of the Office of Alumni Relations.  While we bid goodbye to the academic year, we hope to welcome back many alumni from our last decade to the Recent Alumni Reunion on June 9. As we rejuvenate and plan for the next academic year – we welcome your input as always on how to best help you stay engaged with Kean.

Liberty Hall Museum will be commemorating the 100th anniversary of the United States entering World War I with an exhibit in which the museum will look at the service of Captain John Kean, his brother Congressman, Robert W. Kean, as well as their three Roosevelt cousins, George, John and Philip. The exhibit, uses firsthand accounts from their letters and postcards sent home, as well as photographs and personal objects to depict the era. This will allow visitors to walk in their footsteps as they were sent off to basic training in 1917, to fighting overseas on the front lines of Europe in 1917-18, to their return home in 1919. The collection at Liberty Hall Museum contains over 300 letters from John and Robert as well as their uniforms, military handbooks, maps, pictures and commemorative pins, all of which will be on display in the exhibit.
