Message from the Alumni Director

As the spring semester comes to a close, we are all taking a deep breath from the myriad of student and alumni events that detonate the ending of another academic year, while we prepare to welcome the 3,600 graduating students May 16 and May 18 into the Kean Alumni Association.  Check out the pictures to the right of our spring events.

In the next 30 days we will celebrate our longest-serving alumni and our most recent alumni.  The 50 Plus Reunion honors those who graduated 51 or more years ago, and the Recent Alumni Reunion gathers the graduating classes from the last decade.  Don’t fit into either of those categories? Don’t worry – we have other opportunities for you to stay engaged with Kean.

Kean Foundation
The much-anticipated annual Kean Gala on the Hudson River is Thursday, June 15! This year we are honoring Maria E. Bordas ’74 ’80 MA who credits both her Cuban parents’ commitment to education and the confidence and valuable tools she gained at Kean as the vehicles driving her toward success. For more information and to purchase your special alumni tickets to the event before registration closes, please see Funds raised for the Gala enable us to provide vital scholarships for deserving students who make their mark on their world once given that opportunity. Mariel Hufnagel is another one of those students.

Mariel Hufnagel, who graduates summa cum laude this May, knows all too well what it means to overcome obstacles. Mariel faced multiple challenges in her life, but never gave up…and neither did Kean. "My failures became the foundation on which I rebuilt my life," Mariel said in her address to students at the 2015 OCC Commencement Ceremony. "We must have the courage to examine our failures as opportunities for growth. We must not give up, we must keep going, and we must always try one more time."
